Want a taste of real culture?

Volunteer at CBKTS today.

Located 60km north of Phnom Penh along the Tonle Sap river, you will live amongst families who have been fishing, silversmiths and artisans of palm oil products for generations.

What volunteering looks like at CBKTS

Our project thrives because of generous volunteers like you. The community urgently needs support to give students a real chance at a better future. In return, you’ll gain an authentic Khmer experience and the reward of making a lasting difference.

Your responsibilities

Teach and inspire

Our students are incredibly dedicated, choosing to study at CBKTS after a full day of public school. Their commitment to learning is unmatched—now they just need passionate teachers to help bring English to life!

In a typical day, you’ll have the morning to plan lessons and relax. Then in the evening, it’s off to school where you will have one of three classes. Depending on the number of volunteers, you may teach by yourself, in pairs or work alongside our local teaching aids.

Previous teaching experience or qualifications are not required. All we need is enthusiasm and a willingness to give these students your full attention. For any support or guidance, the local team is there to help.

Schedule
5pm – 6pm
Class at CBKTS

Teach at our three CBKTS classrooms. Students are grouped based on age and ability. Our youngest (ages 5+) are learning the alphabet, numbers and handwriting through songs and games.

Our older students following a structured textbook—where interactive and engaging lessons make all the difference!

6pm – 7pm
Conversation classes

Our small focus group of 10 students where we practise conversation and communication abilities. We usually invite the students to a more relaxed setting at Searey’s home where we comfortably discuss a topic decided the previous day.

Extra teaching opportunities

We also support the local public school where you can offer to teach the eldest classes.

Foreign English teachers are a rare sight! The students are thrilled to have you and deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from a native or fluent speaker.

More than just a place to stay, our homestay offers a gateway into Khmer culture and traditions. From the moment you arrive, you’ll be welcomed like family: sharing meals, learning about local customs, and participating in the daily rhythms of Cambodian life.

It’s an experience that goes beyond sightseeing, offering real connections and lasting memories.

Whilst you help our incredible community, you’ll be staying with Searey, his wife Sreyran, and two children Lina and Mongkol.

Our homestay is basic but comfortable. You will have a private room equipped with a fan and mosquito net. We provide three filling meals every day along with other local snacks and beverages.

We have two bicycles that you can use to explore the village, visit the markets and local bakery. For any other needs, please simply ask.
